L&T Construction Awarded *Large contracts for its Heavy Civil Infrastructure business
The construction arm of L&T has securedlarge orders from a prestigious client for its Heavy Civil Infrastructurebusiness in India.
The Business has secured an order from ChennaiMetro Rail Corporation Limited (CMRL) to construct nearly 12km Twin Boredtunnels from Kellys station to Taramani Road Junction station. It also involvesconstruction of diaphragm walls of station box and entry/exit structures ofChetpet Metro, Royapettah Govt. Hospital, Thiruvanmiyur Metro Stations, andpart diaphragm wall of Greenways Road Metro Station, including launching andretrieval shafts in these stations.
This underground Metro Rail tunnel package isa part of Corridor-III of CMRL Phase-II Metro Rail Project and is to beconstructed in approximately 52 months by using eight tunnel boring machinesworking simultaneously in various stretches of the project.
The Business has also secured another orderfrom Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (CMRL) to construct approximately 8.0kmof elevated Viaduct with nine elevated Metro Stations starting from Power Houseto Porur Junction, including other associated works. The elevated corridorincludes approximately 4.0km of double deck construction in which both thedecks are used for Metro Rail, which will be the first-of-its-kind in India. Thiselevated Metro Rail package is a part of Corridor-IV of CMRL Phase-II MetroRail Project and is to be constructed in 36 months.
These projects are the first packages ofPhase–II which have been awarded by Chennai Metro Rail. Both the projects werebagged under stiff competition from domestic and international metroconstruction players.
