Mehru Electrical signs technology co-development agreement with Hyosung Group of South Korea
MehruElectrical and Mechanical Engineers Pvt. Ltd., a material subsidiary of QualityPower Electrical Equipments Ltd. (QPEEL), has announced the signing of alandmark co-development agreement with Hyosung T&D India Private Limited, awholly-owned subsidiary of Hyosung Heavy Industries Corporation, Korea, forgas-insulated switchgear (GIS) instrument transformers. This positions Mehru asone of the first Indian companies to co-develop GIS instrument transformertechnology for global markets.
Thecollaboration brings together Hyosung’s global leadership in advanced equipmentand eco-friendly gas technologies with Mehru’s expertise in manufacturinghigh-voltage instrument transformers, enabling the creation of world-class GIScomponents designed and manufactured in India.
Gas-insulatedswitchgear is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the transmission anddistribution industry. Unlike conventional air-insulated substations, GISoffers compact design, enhanced reliability and safety, and environmentallyresponsible innovation with alternatives to SF6 gas.
Theglobal GIS market is projected to grow at a 7–8 per cent CAGR through 2030,driven by renewable integration, urbanization, and grid modernization. Indiahas traditionally relied on imports for GIS equipment, with major suppliersbased in Europe, China, and Japan.
Thisdevelopment enables Mehru to diversify into the GIS value chain and to addressnew demand segments, such as metro rail, offshore wind, data centres, andhigh-voltage urban transmission projects
