The UnionCabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved aproject proposed by the Ministry of Railways to construct new rail and roadbridge over River Ganga, including construction of third and fourth railwayline on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Junction railway line. The totalestimated cost is approximately INR 2,642-crore. The project will beimplemented under Varanasi and Chandauli districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Varanasi-PanditDDU Junction is a very important railway junction for passenger and freight. Transportationof goods like coal, cement, and food grains passes through the Junction, oftenleading to a lot of congestion on this route. To address this problem, it wasnecessary to make useful improvements in the infrastructure on this route.
