Switch Mobility partnerswith JSW to introduce electric buses for employee transportation.

-         Firstsignificant and largest electric bus order in India for employee commute.

-         SwitchMobility to own and oversee operations, charging infra, and maintenance for 12years.

Switch Mobility Ltd(Switch), the next-generation carbon neutral electric bus and light commercialvehicle company, has partnered with JSW to introduce electric buses foremployee transportation in India. This is the first significant and largest electricbus order in the country for employee transportation, with 71 buses being deliveredto JSW Steel, for their Vijayanagar plant.

Switch Mobility will ownand oversee entire operations including setting-up of charging infrastructure,and requisite maintenance efficacy, over a 12-year contract period. The firstset of electric buses was flagged-off by Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and ManagingDirector – JSW Group of companies, and Mahesh Babu, Global CEO – SwitchMobility Ltd.

MaheshBabu said, “The private bus market in India is one of the key transportationmarkets in the country constituting 70 per cent market share, of which theprivate electric bus market is expected to be valued at `60-billion in the nextfive years. With the positive reception to Switch EiV 12, we are glad to enterthe employee transportation space and be a part of the sustainable journey withJSW Steel.”

The air-conditioned busesinclude SWITCH EiV 12, which features customer-centric offerings on technologyand employee comfort, while being contemporary and futuristic. Switch EiV 12 isembedded with proprietary, connected technology solutions, ‘Switch iON’,enabling remote, real-time diagnostic and monitoring services, as well asworld-class digital battery management tools. The EV architecture of EiVplatform is common with the European Switch e1 bus.

The buses are alsoequipped with a new generation of highly efficient, modular batteries withadvanced lithium-ion NMC chemistry, specially formulated for the Indian marketand climatic conditions. The electric drivetrains and batteries are calibratedto ensure superior efficiency with long battery life, delivering lower totalcost of ownership in the market.

To ensure effectiveoperations and services of these electric buses, Switch is expanding its teamand recruiting 200 personnel, in line with its growth plans of increasing manpowerby 30 per cent over the next five years.

The company management hasindicated that it is in talks with more corporations across the country forsimilar such deals.
