HVO now usable on all Haulotte Internal Combustion booms

The switch from diesel to HydrotreatedVegetable Oil (HVO) is an opportunity to significantly reduce CO2,NOx and particle emissions. Haulotte customers now have the choice to filltheir machine with diesel or HVO100. This oil is mainly found in Europe. Somecountries, such as Finland and UK, have put in place tax incentives to promotethis greener fuel.

HVO is a renewable and environmentallyfriendly fuel made from 100 per cent sustainably sourced renewable rawmaterials, such as waste and residue fat fractions coming from foodindustry, as well as from non-food grade vegetable oil fractions. It results inimportant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions over the fuel’s life cycle whencompared with fossil diesel.

The outcome is a renewable dieselwhich has a similar chemical composition to fossil diesel. It is fullycompatible with all of Haulotte Internal Combustion engines.

According to a spokesperson, all theirengines – including Range extenders – allow the use of EN15940* compliantHVOs. This means that HVO100 can be used on all Haulotte IC machines, eventhose delivered in the past.

The spokesperson cautions thatpeople often confuse between FAME and HVO. Renewable diesel, or HVO, issometimes confused with biodiesel or FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester). The maindifferences between them are found in their chemical compositions:

-         HVO is produced through a hydro-treatmentprocess. The result is a fuel with a similar chemical composition to fossildiesel. This chemical resemblance enables renewable diesel to be used indiesel engines in up to a 100 per cenet concentration, or to be blended in anyratio with fossil diesel. It does not require any enginemodification to be used.

-         Biodiesel, such as FAME, has adifferent composition than fossil diesel and they cannot act as a substitutefor each other. The maximum permissible concentration of a FAME biodiesel in ablend with fossil diesel is 7.0 per cent. A FAME portion above 7.0 per centrequires modification of the engine.

*EN 15940 is a European standardparaffinic diesel fuel specification that ensures the quality of the fuel.

What are the advantages of HVO?

-         High-quality fuel with no compromise onengine performance.

Environmental benefits:

-         CO2 reduction by up to 90 percent over the fuel’s life cycle compared to fossil diesel.

-         Particles emissions reduction by up to 33 percent during combustion. The particle filter sees less demand and staysclean longer.

-         NOx reduced by up to 6.0 per cent duringcombustion.

-         Engine manufacturer warranty is preserved.
