And, so, when India – and also many countries – banned the use of river sand for construction, almost shutting down construction activities in various cities across the globe, sand shortage forced several countries to opt for offshore mining of sand and gravel. Growing from ground up
The company has adopted a two- pronged growth strategy – expansion in the existing core cities and rapid launch in untapped new geographies. “Today the company has a sound base in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chen- nai, Nagpur, Delhi and Vijayawada, in addition to a few more cities that are in the pipeline. Furthermore, we have plans to expand capacities in existing markets where we have strong cus- tomer base with pan-India presence in major metros” says Sumnesh Khan- delwal, Chief Executive Officer, Robo Silicon Private Limited.

Today, Robo has doubled their volumes and tripled their plant EBID- TA from last 12-15 months of opera- tions. The company has added four new plants – at Nagpur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi. Driving the Demand

The company has seen good demand from places which has less access to river sand and where development in infrastructure and large products are high. “Typically, metro cities tend to have the maximum demand,” informs Khandelwal. “However, the accept- ance level of Manufactured Sand is high in the Southern and Western parts of India.

So, naturally, cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune seem to have more demand compared to the northern cities.”


The company caters to four segments:
Large, Small Builders and Indi- vidual Houses: This has been their main stay. “This segment demands quality and compliant material at rea- sonable prices, which blends well with our production ideology,” says Khan- delwal. “We have dedicated sales team which works only on the LSBI seg- ment across all major cities.”

Projects and Infrastructure development: The company’s next major segment is Projects, where they  have provided huge volumes of mate- rials to large commercial, infrastruc- ture and residential projects dealt by large construction companies. “We cater to and maintain good relation- ships with L&T, SPCL, etc. In the past, we have done several projects for GMR, Reliance, to name just two,” says Khandelwal.
