L&T Construction awarded *large contract to build India’s longest river bridge
Bridge to connect states of Assam and Meghalaya across River Brahmaputra.
L&T Construction has secured a large contract to construct India’slongest road bridge across river Brahmaputra connecting Dhubri in Assam toPhulbari in Meghalaya. The 19 km long bridge will be built along NationalHighway 127-B and will feature a Navigation Bridge of 12.625 km, approachviaducts of 3.5 km on the Dhubri side, and 2.2 km on the Phulbari side, connectedwith approach roads and interchanges on both sides.
The bridge will have huge strategic relevance by improving theconnectivity of the North Eastern States with the rest of the country andestablish a vital link between Assam and Meghalaya by reducing the distancebetween the two States by 250 km. Currently, the travel between Dhubri and Phulbariis by ferry that takes up to 2.5 hrs.
“This is an extremely challenging project, and we thank our client, NationalHighways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. for reposingconfidence in our capability to build a such a defining piece ofinfrastructure,” said S V Desai, WholeTime Director and Senior Executive Vice President (Civil Infrastructure),L&T.
