Waaree Energies’ Bifacialsolar modules to increase output by 30 per cent.
In the recent wake of the USadministration exempting bifacial panels from tariffs, Waaree Energies Ltd,India’s leading EPC player and largest solar PV manufacturer, has launchedtheir very own bifacial solar modules – Super 400 Pro. Considered to be adisruptor in the Indian solar industry, the innovative solution is expected toincrease the solar generation output by 30 per cent, which in turn islikely to generate additional solar credit through the net metering policiesand, thereby, reduce the cost of operations by 5–15 per cent.
With the potential to absorbsun rays from both sides, the module is being indigenously developed atGujarat. The product is designed with enhanced focus on the rooftop and theutility scale market, wherein maximized output in moderate conditions is avital aspect for efficiency.
The bifacial modules enablemore absorption of incident light on both sides of the modules, thuseliminating the redundancy of tradition mono-facial panels. The enhancedperformance of bifacial modules is also the result of a reduced internaltemperature in the module.
The solution will alsoprovide cost-benefit to the developers and, in turn, the end consumer. Withproduct innovation at its core, the module has been indigenously developed totake a step further towards India’s 175GW renewable target.
Sunil Rathi, Director, WaareeEnergies says that the Super400 Pro modules are already witnessing a significant demand in the utilitysegment of the US markets. “We expect demand from both, theCIN and residential segment,” he says.
Due to the diversity intopography and climatic conditions in India, albedo varies vastly from place toplace, and with mono-facial modules, the reflected light from the ground tendsto increase the internal temperature of the module resulting in lowerproductivity of the module. This phenomenon hampers the need for maximizedoutput in limited spaces, making bifacial modules a necessity in the rooftopsegment.
