An optimal solution

Mahindra & Mahindra’s RoadMaster Motor Gradersoffer numerous tangible and intangible benefits. The proof of this is thenumber of Motor Graders sold in the country in just the last two years.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. recently introducedits BSIV compliant construction equipment with the launch of the new BSIVcompliant Motor Grader – MahindraRoadMaster G9075 and G9595 underthe aegis of its Construction Equipment business. These tough and reliableproducts have been designed and developed in India after an in-depthunderstanding of the needs of the consumers, which is the hallmark ofMahindra’s product development process.

The new BSIV RoadMaster range offers anoptimized solution and precisely caters to the road contractor’s grading needsfor government flagship programs, such as Smart cities, Bharatmala, etc., aswell as for major district roads, state highways, border roads, and expansionof national highways.

The G9075is powered with 74HP CRI Engine and increased torque up to 350 NM, which isideal for State Highways, Rural Roads, District Roads, and other projects underPMGSY. This Motor Grader is coupled with a 3.0m (10 ft) wide blade and isoptimized to deliver zero compromise grading at a fractional 40 percent cost as compared to conventional motor graders.

The G9595is powered with 95 HP CRi Engine and increased torque up to 400 NM, which isideal for the construction of National Highways and their expansion processes, rail corridors, and industrial plot levelling. Keeping operator comfort inmind, the G9595 comes with ergonomically designed air-conditioned cabin. Itprovides fatigue free operating experience to the operators, thereby helpingthem improve overall productivity.

The RoadMaster range will augment the productportfolio of large contractors and will be an optimal solution for constructingmedium roads, state highways, as well as national highways. They are also aptfor applications such as embankment or earthwork for laying of railway tracksand levelling of large plots for industrial construction and ports.

Benefitsof RoadMaster Motor Graders in Rural Roads Construction

The major difference in Indian roads compared tothose of the developed countries is that even today, around 94 per cent of theroads In India are small and medium (rural and district) roads whereas these percentagesin developed countries are usually less than 30 per cent. As India is a highlypopulated country, there is already some form of road connectivity available inmost parts and the further development of these roads will be more of a case ofupgradation/development than a new construction.

The current motor graders available in Indiatoday – except RoadMaster – are in a price and operating cost range which makesthem unaffordable for use by small contractors. RoadMaster Motor Graders, onthe other hand, give the lowest cost per spreading and grading not only withconventional motor graders but also with manual labourers, which possibly canbe the most basic form of spreading and grading making it the most value formoney spreading and grading option in India today viable for even the smallerroad contractors.

The second biggest problem is in the size of themotor graders. Most of the rural roads are built passing small towns andvillages where settlements usually come up adjoining the roads due to bettertransportation access. This further narrows the space available to travel andwork for motor graders.

Also, since these rural roads connect severalvillages, the traffic cannot be stopped while constructing the road as this isthe only means of transport. So, the graders need to be compact enough to beable to let vehicles to pass without having to get off the road.

The smallest village roads in India are 3.0 meterswide with a shoulder of approximately 0.75m on either side giving a total widthof around 4.5 meters. RoadMaster graders, with overall width at 2.1 meters, allow for a space of approximately 2.4 meters for other vehicles to pass whileworking on the road. This is not possible on bigger graders due to the higherwidth coming around 2.4 meters.

The third reason why imported graders will notbe able to work in smaller rural roads in India is the complexity in design andscarcity of dealer outlets. As rural roads are mostly in interiors, in case ofbreakdown, it will firstly take a technician days to reach the site and inspectthe issue and then few more days to get the spare parts and get the machine upand running. However, due to its simple design, the breakdowns are less, andeven in case of some repairs, these are easy to identify and correct, which canbe accomplished locally with the help of qualified service engineer. The spareparts being easily available, as it is a Made in India machine, also adds tothe faster uptime for RoadMaster motor graders.

The fourth important aspect is the quality offinish of graded material. Despite being slightly smaller machine, the qualityof camber/grading with RoadMaster is comparable to that of any imported grader. As a result, there is no difference in the end result in terms of quality ofwork.

The fifth important reason is that not only areRoadMaster motor graders designed for India but are also extensively tested inIndia in different applications and conditions before launch, which has ensuredits performance in Indian conditions so that the customers can be rest assuredthat RoadMaster will accomplish the tasks it is put up to.

The sixth important reason is that Mahindra isan Indian customer-centric brand which will be there for their customers, nomatter what. This cannot be said for the other international brands which canshut shop in India and go back leaving their customers stranded with themachine but without proper spare parts and service support.

Apart from these, there are many other tangibleand intangible benefits, but these benefits are themselves sufficient enough toconsider RoadMaster motor graders as a superior option for spreading andgrading of road material in small and medium roads. The proof of this is in theRoadMaster motor graders sold in India in last two years. Out of the over 600graders sold, many are being used in constructing rural roads helping build an#Atmanirbhar Bharat.
