Stepping up during unsettling times

DimitrovKrishnan takes over as President of Indian Construction EquipmentManufacturer’s Association (ICEMA) for the period 2021-23.

 

The Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA)elected their President for the period 2021-23 during its Annual GeneralMeeting held virtually on July 19, 2021. Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director,Volvo Construction Equipment India Pvt. Ltd. will lead the apex association ofCE industry.

ICEMA has beenworking towards becoming more articulate and aims to be the credible voice ofthe Indian Constriction industry. The association has devised several key initiativesto work on, one of which is the Vision Plan 2030, which charts the roadmap forthe Indian construction industry for the coming 10 years.

Speaking about hisrole, Dimitrov said, “The task ahead is clear and it is strongly linked to theVision Plan 2030. The construction equipment industry in India has the potentialto grow by three times its current size (to US$25-billion) to become thesecond-largest construction industry in the world.”

This endeavour,believes Dimitrov, is driven by focusing on three areas:

  • Building a SustainableDemand for the industry,

  • Creating a robust OperatingEcosystem that can support the industry, and

  • Establishing astable foundation using Skilling Capabilities.

"In thisregard, we need to strengthen the ICEMA by building a strong pool of people whocan support the association, increase the participation of members andgovernance where everyone feels involved,” Dimitrov adds.

Dimitrov alsohighlighted the uncertainty and volatility that the industry has been battlingsince the last two years due to various factors, like the 2019 elections,IL&FS crisis followed by the Covid-19 complications. “The industry is also facingsome immediate concerns like that of rising steel prices, which are puttingtremendous pressure on the supply chain of OEMs. Added to which are issueslike, world-wide shipping disruptions, cash flow crunch in the market, and thethreat of a third wave leading to further constraints,” he adds.

To combat thesechallenges, ICEMA aims at working closely with the Central and StateGovernments to create a sustained demand in the industry.
