Challenging the status quo

A modern and environmentally friendly transporting system for all kinds of bulk materials, Overland Pipe Conveyor from Bevcon overcomes numerous challenges associated with conventional conveyor systems.

The need of the hour for material handling industry is to upgrade engineering and manufacturing technologies to meet the ever-growing need of increased conveying capacities, longer transportation distances, limited material spillages, high inclination angles, more complex routing combined with product reliability and cost-effective solutions. Bevcon has identified top focused areas, one among which is to continuously challenge the status quo.
Bevcon is consistent and constantly doing the business for more than two decade in conventional material handling domain. It is now time to ‘challenge the consistency and current status quo’ and move on to bigger leagues of business, which is must for organization to sustain in the long run – hence, the initiative to lead the organization to ‘long distance conveying applications’.

One great breakthrough for Bevcon was technology tie-up with world renowned engineering firm, Overland Conveyor Co. Inc., USA, in the areas of bulk and long distance conveying applications. This tie-up facilitated Bevcon in to the bigger leagues of execution of projects in the field of Mining, Power, Cement, Steel and others sectors across India.
The unique technology of conveying bulk material in ‘Troughed and Pipe conveyor’ will make a difference to the material handling industry from the perspective of cost economics, environmental, layout criticality challenges in specific.

Overland Pipe Conveyor
Overland Pipe Conveyor is a modern and environmentally friendly transporting system for all kinds of bulk materials. It overcomes numerous challenges associated with conventional conveyor systems. Pipe Conveyors have best capabilities of transferring materials between two points, managing both horizontal and vertical curves as well as high inclinations, which are difficult in case of trough conveyors. It eliminates multiple transfer points and exposure of material to atmosphere.
Pipe Conveyor not only protects the conveyed material against external influences, such as climatic conditions, but it also avoids material loss and spillage and, thus, protects the environment.

Working Principle
At the loading and discharging points, the conveyor looks similar to open troughed conveyors. The material is supplied onto the belt in the same way as with conventional belt conveyors. The difference starts after the loading point, where the belt is formed into typical tubular shape by special idler arrangements over a certain distance and, finally, is led through idler panels with hexagonal cut outs and offset idler arrangement. From that point on, the belt forms a sealed pipe over the entire conveying line.
The material is protected against external influences while the environment is protected against any potential material loss. The flexible belt pipe design allows directional changes without the need for additional transfer stations.
At the discharging point, the belt opens automatically after the final idler panel and transfers the material to its next destination; the belt on the lower strand is closed again by special idler arrangements. The Pipe Conveyor also meets special requirements, such as transporting different materials in the upper and lower belt and downhill transport with power-regeneration. Pipe conveyors are available from 150mm to 700mm diameter with both fabric and steel cord carcass belt.
Bevcon has designed, manufactured, Supplied, erected and commissioned 1.4km pipe conveyor for handling 3150TPH limestone from mine to process plant of Shree Cement Raipur, India and it is working satisfactorily since its installation in 2015. This installation displays Bevcon’s competency in the bulk material handling applications as well as project management abilities.
Some of the unique features of the Pipe Conveyor are:
-  It protects the conveyed material against external climatic conditions.
-  It also avoids material loss and spillage and, thus, protects the environment by dust free transport.
-  It can negotiate tight horizontal and vertical curves.
-  Low space requirement.
-  Eliminates transfer towers.
-  Adapts to topographic requirements.
-  Possibility of downhill transportation.
-  Option of double load transport of different kinds of material in the upper and lower strand.
-  High operational safety.
Pipe Conveyor potential application areas are:
Pipe Conveyor has been used in various industries, including Power plants, Steel, Cement plants, Refineries, Port terminals, to name a few, for:
-  Transporting of raw materials, e.g. limestone and ore from mine to process plant.
-  In port terminals, loading and unloading materials in environmentally sensitive areas.
-  In power plants, transporting coal.
-  In refineries, transporting Sulphur.
