BIM revolution has already reshaped theConstruction world. As everything around us is getting digitalized, analysed, smart, and intelligent, no project can afford to miss this revolution, be itmanufacturing factories, commercials spaces, or houses.
BIM implementationwill bring all the benefits of digitalization. It will bring in great savingsin terms of material, constructability, and coordination, thus saving roughly 20per cent (ref: Niti Aayog India, Dec 2019).
BIM based Material Management
Every project has a very critical task i.e., Materialsmanagement/Procurement. Every stake holder in a project is affected by it. For efficientmaterial management, BIM can add great value.
BIM can address following inherent issues intraditional material management .This can save up to 15 per cent of materialwastes (Ref. Jian Li 2014):
Designerrors and subsequent unexpected changes during execution: Thiscan be achieved through clash management and design parameter validation duringBIM model construction.
TraditionalQuantity take off is often tedious, error prone, and slow process.BIM-based QTO is a digital automated process linked to whole building data.
Constructionprocess and material consumption needs to be dynamically updated forofficial materials management, which is very inefficient in traditional QTO.
With BIM based QTO and material requirements, wecan create material consumption plan and monitor them real time based on siteupdates.
