Quality control of fabrication and installation plays a critical role in building customer confidence and continued patronage towards Deceuninck UPVC Windows or Doors, writes Satish Kumar.

“RERA mandates maintenance of the building for five years by the developer. Very soon, all structural elements would require certification by Structural Engineers.”
Satish Kumar, Country Manager, Deceuninck Profile India Pvt. Ltd.

It has been nearly two decades that UPVC windows and doors have made their entry in the Indian sub-continent. Absence of Indian Standard code for UPVC Profiles or Doors/Windows and lower investment barrier for entry has made it easy for many companies to enter into profile and window production. While quality standards for profiles is a completely different subject, design, fabrication, and installation of the window is becoming more and more important in today’s times.

RERA mandates maintenance of the building for five years by the developer. Very soon, all structural elements – Doors, Windows, Facades, Balcony Railing, Skylights, Atriums, Canopies, etc., – would require certification by Structural Engineers.

Manufacturers would have to back up their calculations with proper testing. Many developers, today, are making testing mandatory to be doubly sure of what is being designed, supplied, and installed in their master pieces.

Deceuninck Project Team collects relevant information on the project – window typology, height of building, location, wind pressure and other design parameters – to work on the optimum design for windows and doors. In some cases where the Developer/Architect /Consultant doesn’t specify the wind pressure, it is derived from IS 875 Part III.
Coastal areas affected by cyclones in previous years have an additional safety factor K4 now to be taken into account while arriving at the design wind pressure. Deflection class is taken from EN 12210: Class A = L/150; Class B = L/200 and Class C = L/300. A minimum of L/150 has to be considered for safe design of windows and doors.
There is often a big debate on the design consideration of Sliding Shutters. Some consider combined moment of inertia of two sliding shutters, which we believe is a wrong practice. Actual tests show that the deflection of UPVC windows is completely different from their metal cousins.

It is recommended to add the individual Moment of Inertia (Ix) values of shutters. Improper design of the Steel Reinforcement or absence of Hurricane Bars/strength couplers could lead to failure in case of storms or strong gusts.
Deceuninck’s multi-chamber profile design enables rain water to be vented out vertically. In case of heavy rain and wind, single chamber – frontal drainage systems may face reverse flow of water into the window.

The position, dimension and number of drainage slots also plays an important role in efficiently draining the rain water during heavy storms. Our in-house testing facility helps us in regularly studying and designing drainage systems for a best-in-class performance.

The multi-chamber design with TPE gaskets, coupled with proper locking hardware systems enables us to achieve low U-values. The Legend Casement series has achieved less than 1.0 W/m2K Uw values making it ideal for Passive Housing systems. The Zendow and Everest Max systems can achieve 1.4 W/m2K Uw values.
In addition to low Uw values, these systems help in cutting down the noise – 35-38dBs, which is extremely useful in today’s urban homes facing onslaught of vehicle horns, festival crackers and other noise. Low air infiltration of Deceuninck systems mean pollen, dust and microbes are kept at bay, protecting your home from harmful external conditions.

Quality control of fabrication and installation plays a critical role in building customer confidence and continued patronage towards Deceuninck UPVC Windows or Doors. Quarterly audits and regular training of Channel Partners help in maintaining the quality of the Doors and Windows supplied and installed.

The GMS Grande Palladium project in Mumbai is a critical commentary on some of the antiquated notions that have plagued contemporary commercial design in the subcontinent.

Rapid urbanization and redevelopment has led to a blanket erasure of any identifiable architectural character in Mumbai, barring a few. The site for the GMS Grande Palladium is in close proximity t   READ MORE...
